Monkeyland KZN
Did you know that when you ride the Gold route you're actually riding a few meters away from the Monkey Land KZN fence? The chances that you have seen it are quite slim, as it's on the fast flowing single track section after the rocks at the top where you want to keep your eyes on the trail. Next time you ride Gold, just pop in at Monkey Land for a drink or a snack. After the last section of
Tips: Riding up a hairpin with a berm
Yes, we are talking about the new berms climbing up on the Silver Mamba Alley section! The basics:Â Here we go again; Look where you go! Actually, sometimes it pays off to look a lot further ahead to see what you can expect. Try to see where the trail is going and how it looks (a rider ahead of you works even better). Now you can decide if you need to brake for a tricky section or save your momentum to
October Round Up!
You can see that the days are getting longer again, with sunrise at 05:30 and sunset around 18:00. This also means that we're on summer schedule and open a little earlier on the weekends (05:30 to 15:30). For the Salomon Time Trail on Tuesday's and for the Club Night Ride and Run (Salomon segment chase) on Thursday's we stay open until 17:00, so everyone can still get permits and a coffee before you go out. More good news; the restaurant
Hey Holla: Q&A with Charl Stander
This month we chatted to regular Holla rider and Owner of Concept Cyclery, Charl Stander
Hluhluwe River Lodge
Last month we visited Hluhluwe River Lodge for a weekend of riding on the Rhino MTB trails with guide and lodge Owner, Gavin Dickson. The weekend started off with a sunset ride into False Bay, through sand forests and onto a magical sundowner stop for G&T's before heading back to the lodge for a shower and 3 course dinner. Gavin is also a foodie and the reason why the cuisine is 5 star! After waking up and having a hearty breakfast
Tips: Riding up a ramp
Riding down ramps is fun, but sometimes you find a ramp that you need to ride up. If you have enough speed and the ramp is not too high you can use the bunny hop that we explained in our last newsletter. If the ramp is too big or you don't have enough speed, that does not mean that you cannot ride up. Here is how you do it: hop! The basics 1:Â As with most MTB skills, it's all about
Hey Holla: Q&A with Sbahle Msweli
This month we didn't have to go far for the Q&A as we are meeting with our crew member, Sbahle Msweli. Even with today's masks, it's not difficult to miss Sbahle's smile at the trailhead on the weekends. During the week you can find Sbahle on the trails; building and maintaining during the day and riding and running the trails when the work is done. You will also soon see Sbahle on the trails riding his bike during the day
August Round Up!
There are still some cold mornings but you can already see that the sun is coming up earlier and it's warming up a bit more during the day. We also had some much needed rain which, not only washed the dust away, but also compacted all the new sections that we've built in the past month. Please check the trail updates as there is a lot happening at the momentÂ
Hey Holla: Q&A with Ambassador Seble Dessalegne
As one of our new Ambassadors for 2021, we decided to find out a little bit more about Seble and how she came to end up loving our trails. Where are you from? We're an Ethiopian/German family, and we live in Umhlanga Village. What brought you to Holla, and how long have you been visiting Holla? I'm always seeking sport and fitness activities. Not all my friends and family enjoy going to the gym or to spin classes, as I do. As a healthy lifestyle fanatic,
April Round Up!
I cannot believe how fast the year is flying by. The morning chill is back and the days are getting shorter. The shorter days mean that we are opening the trail head at 0600 from the 1st of May. It also means that we spend less time trying to keep up with the fast growing cane, grass and bush, so we have more time to develop the trails. You may have noticed that harvest season has started again, so please
