Hey Holla: Q&A with Sandy van Rooyen
This month we talk to longstanding Holla member Sandy van Rooyen What initially drew you to mountain biking, how long have you been riding for and how did you become such a dedicated member of Holla Trails? My husband bought us bikes in 2009 and we used to just ride up and down Durban promenade until I was introduced to AmaAngels and Ian Wilson in 2012. From my first day riding at Holla the bug had bitten and Holla and the Angels became
Hey Holla: Q&A with Sanchia Malan

I was born in Bloemfontein, but grew up in Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal Triangle. I started riding about three years ago. My partner – Paul Izzard bought me a helmet and encouraged me to try it out. At first I thought
Hey Holla: Q&A with Grant Dekker
Life in the fast lane. This month we talk to Grant Dekker How did you get involved in organising Enduro mountain bike events, and what inspired you to do so? I recently volunteered to serve on KZN Gravity mountain biking committee. I have enjoyed years of skids and wheelies, laughs , adventures and happiness on my mountain bikes. Hey Holla: Q&A with Legend Les Warr
At Holla Trails we have a good incentive for you to stay fit when you get older. You get a discount when you are over 60, but it gets even better when you are over 70… it's FREE! You may say that is cheap marketing as there is hardly anyone over 70 that is still riding a bike on a trail. Actually 5% of our members are over 70 and hit the trails regularly. 15% of the legends are female,
Tips: Long Rides
Holiday time is the right time to do long distance rides. Most people do have more time at hand and it creates a solid base for the rest of the year. Here are some tips to make it work for you: Â Prepare:Â the longer the ride, the bigger the chance of an incident. Make sure your bike is in top condition and you have the gear to fix two punctures (bombs, plugs, tube and mini pump), take a cell phone, a mini
Medi Response Summer time – snake time
It’s that time of the year when meetings with snakes are common. Walkers, hikers, gardeners, and children at play are more likely than usual to have a close encounter with a snake. The first rule is to stay alert to the possibility of the presence of snakes during spring and summer and avoid contact. In cases where there has been a snake bite, we are always on call to help with dangerous or life-threatening situations. KwaZulu Natal is home to several
Tips: Wind
Most people hate wind and it keeps them from riding but the fact is that it equals out at the end of the ride. Unless the wind picks up during your ride and you have a headwind back, you have the same amount of wind against you as you have tail wind. I actually like riding in the wind. It's the same as the effort you put in by riding up a hill for the fun of flying down the track.
