Q&A with Holla Ambassador Nataliia Savelieva!
Meet Nataliia – Our Inspiring Running Ambassador!
From the scenic shores of Crimea to the vibrant trails of Ballito, Nataliia’s journey is one of transformation, resilience, and pure passion for movement. Since discovering running, she’s gone from feeling stuck and unwell to becoming a powerful coach, trail runner, and joyful mom—using fitness as her anchor and her gift to others. Whether she’s starting the day with a sunrise run at Holla Trails or sharing midweek adventures with her son, Nataliia radiates positivity and strength.
In this special Q&A, we dive into her story—from the moment she laced up her shoes for the first time to her mission to empower other women to find their joy on the trails. Her journey is a reminder that it’s never too late to start, and that self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s the heartbeat of a thriving life.
Where are you from and where do you live now?
Born in Crimea, Ukraine, I moved to South Africa in 2017, and I have called Ballito home since 2020. It’s been a cool journey!
Tell us a little bit about yourself—how did your fitness and running journey begin?
Growing up, I wasn’t sporty, I struggled with health, and carried extra weight. One morning, fed up with feeling bad and unhappy with how I looked, I got up and ran. That spark changed everything, kicking off my love for running and fitness.
As a mom, coach, and runner—how do you find balance in your daily life?
There’s always time for running—it’s my meditation, like brushing my teeth, an essential act of self-care. Whether I’m parenting, coaching, or tackling the day, I prioritise it to stay grounded and strong.
What does a typical day look like for you, and where do the trails fit in?
Mornings start with a run in Ballito or at Holla Trails, setting the tone. I coach while my son’s at school, keeping my days productive. Every Wednesday at 5pm, my son and I hit Holla Trails together for the Traverse Social Trail Run—those nature moments midweek are pure inspiration.
How has motherhood influenced your relationship with fitness and running?
Motherhood deepened my love for running—it’s my recharge, making me a healthier, happier mom. A strong me means a thriving son; self-care isn’t selfish, it’s magic for us both.
What’s your go-to piece of advice for moms who want to make time for themselves and get active?
Start small—walk, run, smile no guilt. Schedule it like a must-do. Connect with other moms for fun. You’re worth it—a happy, active you sparks joy in your kids.
What do you love most about running at Holla Trails?
Holla Trails is my playground—lush paths, open skies, pure freedom. Running there lifts my spirit, and sharing it with others makes every step a celebration of life.
How do you keep your running fun and sustainable while also coaching others?
I keep runs fresh—new trails, epic playlists, or group vibes. Coaching’s about heart—lifting others while staying playful. Joy in motion keeps me going, and I pass that spark to everyone.
Do you have a favourite trail snack or recovery treat post-run?
I blend a smoothie with berries and yogurt and eat it like ice cream, with my son 😉
What’s one goal you’re currently working toward—either personal, professional, or running-related?
I’m chasing stronger runs, deeper coaching impact, and teaching my son to love running. Every step builds a healthier me, pouring joy into my family and community.
What message do you hope to share as a Holla Trails ambassador with other women in your community?
To women everywhere—hit the trails, move your way. You don’t need to be perfect, just show up. Running builds strength, happiness, and bonds. A healthy, joyful woman lifts everyone—let’s thrive together!
